The experience of mission in the colonias can be the spiritual journey of a lifetime. Click on the FAQ, Requirements, Mission Dates, etc. on the left of this page for information about our nest trips.
Walk the streets and learn from the people about daily life in the colonias. Visit people in their homes. Standing inside of a 12 by 10 foot cardboard house with a family of five teaches us more than we could
learn in a lifetime of meetings in an office classroom or church building. Standing inside a small cement house with crumbling and cracked walls that look as though they are about to collapse as we talk to the small children living in that home brings immediate needs into sharp focus. Our mission experiences gives life and meaning to social justice theories and concepts. Our mission experiences push us to action that helps us become the people we always hoped we would become.
We provide two forms of mission experience.
Our scheduled missions are open to the public and attract people from the United States and Canada. It is normal to have people from New Jersey, Kentucky, Wyoming and Texas on the same mission. Participants must be at least 11-years of age and minors must be accompanied by parents.
These 4-day missions typically begin on a Thursday or Friday and end on a Sunday or Monday. Signing up is simple. Just check the list on our calendar and click on any open mission. Mail your completed paper-work and check to the address provided.
Private missions are arranged when you contact us by e-mail. Colleges, churches, businesses and families typically request these missions. We only ask that private missions consist of at least 8-people. Sometimes we receive multiple requests for less than 8-people and we are able to find mutually agreeable dates and form a group of eight from these smaller groups. We try to limit group size to 24. We run all missions at cost. We make no profit for the organization. You do not pay for our time with you. You only pay the actual costs of food, lodging and transportation
